| Description |
| Job Corps is the nation's
largest residential career training program (non-residential programs are
available in the Portland area). It is funded by the Department of Labor,
so in essence comprises a $21K annual scholarship for participants. Students
receive professional help finding a job (86% of Job Corps graduates get jobs,
enter the military or get more education), a place to live, three meals a
day, room and board, recreational activities, basic dental and medical care,
and earn an allowance every other week. Established in 1964, Job Corps
helps over 70,000 youth annually learn job and employability skills, and also
to find a job after graduation. |
